More like a $12 extended return plan
I purchased this prior to dealing with another Square Trade policy I have. The Square Trade fine print has just come to my attention and is as follows:
"THE VALUE OF YOUR COVERAGE:
The value of your Protection Plan is in most cases equal to the purchase price of your item. Each time you file a valid claim, and we provide repair, the total value of your coverage is reduced by the cost of the repairs.
Then if you file another valid claim with us on the same item, and repairs are estimated to cost more than the remaining value of your Protection Plan, the remaining value of your Protection Plan will be offered instead.”
I question how this is going to work with my camera flash. A simple repair to re-solder a loose USB connection on my perviously covered tablet with SquareTrade was billed as a $150 repair charge against the total covered value of the tablet. If it costs $150 to solder a connection, I can't imagine that they will be able to do much of anything by way of repair to a $75 camera flash before they exceed the covered value of the item. In other words, when you purchase this protection plan, you are essentially purchasing a one time refund of the purchase price of the flash, not a 3 year protection plan. For the $12, it isn't a bad deal. But the marketing is deceptive.

Square Trade came through with their end of the bargain after my camera met an ill fate (100pcs). Took a little long for the whole process but they sent a new camera.

When my phone went bad, it was revealed that the protection plan included ...
SquareTrade was offered with online phone purchase. Purchased and 60 days after purchase date, When my phone went bad, it was revealed that the protection plan included with the phone was actually for a camera ($25-$50 value). Ultimately useless for me and the Galaxy phone that has a bad mic. When I finally spoke to ST rep, they acknowledged payment authorized by my credit card on that specific date; but, also said they did not have information specific to the item that was supposedly covered. It should be noted that while my card was billed, NO emails or acknowledgement was given to confirm any service provided whatsoever; or that more info was needed to initiate protection plan. Who covers an item for ANY price and doesn't know what it is? Fishy practices, by both the vender WIRELESSPHONEZONE and SquareTrade. IMHO, they are taking our money in exchange for the idea of being covered throughout the term--until you discover you are ACTUALLY NOT covered when/if the need arises; they win either way. Collecting money for replacement/reimbursement that never occurs; or denying claims for those who do need it. Scandalous practice, IMO.
