Rough start, but getting better.
By Lucius Magillicutty
I will preface this review by pointing out that the original purchase URL has been converted to this URL, I suspect as a way to distance the product from poor reviews that were cropping up at an alarming rate.
I purchased the One Touch 3 at the end of January 2016 and by the first week of March the device has been rendered useless. As many other customers have pointed out, there is a spring that pull both of the top mount clamps together (the clamps that hold the phone). There are two little plastic hooks molded into the backs of each clamp that hold either end of the spring. After a few uses, one of those hooks sheared away and now the clamps cannot hold any phone, thus rendering the entire car mount device useless. Being beyond 30 days from purchase, the product was no longer eligible for a return or refund from Amazon, so the only option is manufacturer warranty.
I reached out to iOttie to enact the product warranty. They have added me to a "list" to get a replacement top mount part. This was about a week ago. I will update my review as the situation evolves.
Shortly after my review went up I received a tracking number for my replacement.
I received the replacement top mount component and so far so good. Initially I was worried about the hooks in the back looking very similar to the previous version, but when I reached out to iOttie about it, they assured me that the inside of the hook is different and they changed the way the spring is attached. I was strongly reassured that this new version had addressed the problem they had initially.
Since I really didn't give a lot of details initially, I'd like to expand my review properly.
I bought this product as a way to mount my phone to the dash without modifying the dash itself or blocking one of my air vents. The suction mount is very strong but unfortunately it could not hold to my dash for more than a few minutes. I have a slightly textured plastic dash that I cleaned thoroughly before attaching but even just the weight of the unit itself was enough to pull it off in a few minutes. I didn't want to block any view of the windshield but luckily the mount arm stretches enough I could mount it relatively low on the windshield. On the glass, the suction cup feels like it is glued in place. It is very sturdy. There are several points where you can tighten joints when you get it positioned where you want it and further sturdy the arm. The best part is the threaded cuff on the ball joint that attaches the top mount to the arm. Once you get it into position and tighten it down, you can tap on your phone without it moving everywhere, which is terrific. All in all, this is the best suction cup mount I have used so far and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something a little sturdier.
Also, iOttie has communicated quite a bit throughout this ordeal so in the event of you getting a lemon, just send them an email. They'll get you fixed up.

This is the absolute best iOttie or any brand of car mount made so far.
I initially bought my first iOttie car mount because I really didn't like the my phone stuck to the windshield for 2 reasons. First it hinders a portion of my view and second it is illegal in NJ to stick things you your windwhield (probably because of reason 1). So with that in mind I purchased my first iOttie car mount in 2013, since it was a dash mount it solved both problems. I finally accidently broke it a few months ago so I needed to buy a new one. I tried a few cheaper brands that were spuuosed to stick to the dash but none of them held up in the heat of summer and my phone kept falling off. So I came back to Amazon and bought a new iOttie car mount, the One Touch 3 (v 2.0), and wow what a great piece of equiptment it is.
Sticking it to dash proved to provide a very secure mount. Even with my the textured dash It stayed secure, even in 105 degree heat and direct sunlight. What I like about it more is the fact that it telescopes allowing me to get my Samsung 6 edge closer to me. I no longer have to stretch my arm and lean forward to reach the mounted phone to change map or other settings. I have it positioned just beyond my stearing wheel and can reach it with my fingers without taking my hands off the wheel. It's great and adds to my driving comfort.
Since I haven't had need to remove the mount I don't know anything about ripping or marring of the dashboard but if I do have to remove it I will try a mild soap and water before ripping the sticky pad off.
I'm including some pictures of the placement and the position of the phone for it's ease of use.

Nice mount, especially for odd dashboards.
Actually I was surprised how well this works. We have a Honda CRV, and there is just enough lower dashboard between the steering wheel and the recessed console that it fits and its an ideal location. No window or console obstruction and very close.
One thing that is not obvious is the different ways to extend it for maximum reach should you need to mount it on the top dashboard or farther away. The instructions are very vague about this. But if you loosen the knob on the arm it extends a 1-2 inches and thats it.. The trick to making it reach further is to loosen the knob near the base and rotate the arm 180 degrees. That gives you several more inches .. and then its quite long. But where we mounted it, there was no need for this extended reach.
The other really nice thing that makes this all worth it, is that spot in the dash next to the steering wheel was almost not large enough, was bumpy, and had a seam in it. But I was able to use the bottom plate, which adheres to the dashboard with a nice gel. This is also great because it prevents the mount and suction cup from doing damage to you dash. After this base sticks to this surface due to its flexible gel, now you have a flat perfect base to mount the suction cup to. The result is a very sturdy mount even on a rough dashboard. it has full 3D ball mount swivel to you can rotate it 360 degrees
Also not clear is how to use this. You can squeeze two handles on the mount to open the mount, it then latches open either to prepare it to mount your phone or to remove the phone. then when you want to put your phone in, you just place it in and the pressure plate on the mount causes that latch to snap shut.
In anycase, for a window mount probably many other mounts would work as with this one. But I think this one is great due to its ability to mount solid to any dashboard texture size, without needing a perfect large flat surface for the suction cup.
This took a while to write, so please vote if it was helpful thanks!
