Nice design, but useless motion sensor

Arlo Smart Home - 1 HD Camera Security System, 100% Wire-Free, Indoor/Outdoor with Night Vision (VMS3130-100NAS)
I have been bombarded by false alarm alerts that are triggered by cars passing since I installed this camera 5 days ago. The distance between the camera and the road is at least 50ft and only top left corner of the camera FOV sees the road. However, it is the PIR sensor that trigger the recording and there is no way to figure out if the PIR sensor's coverage is same as the camera FOV. I can understand why the PIR sensor can detect the car (big warm moving object) at 50ft away, even spec claims it detects UP TO 20ft only. But, there is this little bird on the front step also triggered the camera. False alarms are generally expected from this type of sensor. But the biggest disappointment is when a postman walked from left FOV to right FOV to my front door (point A to point B in the attached pic), Arlo starts recording only when he turns away. Only his back was recorded. This is unacceptable because it is exactly the scenario I wanted Arlo to record. It failed miserably.
Attached screenshot are from the same day and same settings.
I have changed different angles, different settings but none works for me so far.
I give it one more weekend before returning it.
I have tried everything I can. This camera doesn't work for me. Too many false alarms (>10 videos of nothing per day) and missed detection made this camera useless. This is very unfortunate because I really like the packaging, but I am returning it.

Very Mixed results

Pro: the app's generally well designed with some Nifty features. I haven't had any battery problems and I've been using it quite a bit for a month and I'm only down about 15%. Using standard double a batteries. Video quality is high. It's been raining here for a week and still working just fine. Wi-Fi signal is very strong from all the way to the other side of the house where it's mounted.
Con: the delay from the time the subject enters the recording view to the time the camera actually starts to record is completely unacceptable. You find yourself shooting the backs of people a whole lot. This needs to be fixed immediately. The camera's lens is fixed and it will not follow a subject as it moves along.. there is also some delay though acceptable, from the time it records to the time it shows it to you in the App. I think this is a very slow lens because if you were to run past the camera quickly it would probably completely miss the recording. The camera is mounted exactly as they call for in the instructions for maximum sensitivity. It's only going to record a slower-moving subject that's within maybe 10 to 12 feet of the camera after it enters the recording View for after about five seconds. Regardless of the entire view of the camera, it's not recording movement outside of its limited range. Sensitivity goes down even further after nightfall.
Update. We are in winter now and ii went from 47% to 15% battery in a month!@ Looks like original batteries are affected by cold. So i turned it off and next day it somehow lost 15% to zero battery remaining ...after i turned it off!!

Discreet and effective
I have owned a Dropcam and a (junk) Foscam and the Arlo system is by far my favorite. The ability to place the camera virtually anywhere, regardless of whether or not there is an outlet is awesome, plus the lack of cords make it very sleek. The video quality is excellent. The web and mobile (iOS) apps work effortlessly and are intuitive. The motion sensing and recording works well and alerts are near instant, so you aren't left with a delayed alert. The free gig of cloud storage is perfect for my residential needs, I don't need a robust archive nor am I interested in a monthly fee (although Arlo does offer upgraded options). Depending on the settings you decide on the battery life should last around six months. For my purposes of checking in on our nanny occasionally and as a security camera to detect and record motion when we are away, this setup cannot be beat. There is an extremely important caveat that you need to be aware of: this camera will not record ongoing video unless motion is detected; if you need to monitor and record an area for an extended period of time this camera is not for you. Another downside is that if you set a schedule and you are home during that schedule you will get constant alerts of motion and the camera's battery will drain rapidly due to the frequency of recording.
