4Excellent Design and Ease of Use
By M. OBrien
Out of the package look and feel, ease of set up and initial photographs were all excellent. My first impression in all areas was very good.
However, I am updating my review and dropping from 5 to 4 stars for a few reasons.
1. A con/ inconvenience is that there is no switch to turn off the lights; the light box must be unplugged or collapsed to turn off the lighting. Not a huge deal if your outlet is accessible, but still less convenient then just flipping a little switch.
2. There are lights at the top center and top left but not the top right; slight shadow is cast becasue it isn't perfectly even.
3. There is a crease in the white backdrop that shows up in the pictures. it can be edited out, very easily depending on the app or software you use; still, it is there.
Notes:
The electric cord initiates at the top of the lightbox, but it is long enough to plug in a wall outlet at the standard height, even when the light box is set up on a table.
There are three flaps in the front that are held open or shut with magnets, making it very convenient to position your camera at different heights. The opening at the top is good; it would be better if there was a magnet or Velcro to hold that flap open; I just folded it back to use the top opening.
Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. Good value; love that it's portable and easily stored. I purcahsed the item for home/ light business use and am keeping it.

4Handy, portfolio-sized light tent for photography
By Joanna D.
The Portable Photo Studio is a relatively heavy collapsing box with LED lights and white backdrop built in. You pop it up, and you can take pictures of objects with soft lighting and no background.

It's about the size of an artist's portfolio but less wide. However, it's plenty heavy--fifteen pounds. It operates on AC power, so you have to plug it in. The cord has its own pocket for storage. Very tidy.

You don't have control on the color of the light: it's daylight balanced color and it's diffused--no spot. There is a port on top for a top camera shot--but you might be able to use it also for lighting.

There is a door to shoot through, meaning you can close the box and have all six sides inside reflecting white light back on your object for shadowless photography. A port lets you peek in with your camera lens to take your photo. The port can be low, side, high, in other words, you have various camera angles even when the "garage door" is closed to allow for maximum reflected light and minimum shadows.

You don't have control on the color of the light: it's daylight balanced color and it's diffused--no spot. There is a port on top for a top camera shot--but you might be able to use it also for lighting.

There is one flaw in this design; the "sweep"--the seamless background folds up when stored inside the unit. It's used in the usual position of a sweep--that is, hung from the top and draping down with a curve where it bends onto the floor. At the bend point, there is a noticeable crease from being folded in storage. It did not come out and as it looks like plasticized fabric, don't think it can easily be ironed. The second photo in the review shows the crease marring the seamless background. While a steady hand with Photoshop can eliminate this, it's the whole point of a seamless background to be...seamless. One star off for this crease as it made shadows and it's defeating the purpose.

In total, however, this is a handy portable photo tent and it works well.

5Easy set-up, excellent quality results
By greentomato
Upon receiving my delivery of the AmazonBasics Portable Studio, within the first five minutes I was shooting excellent product photos. I'm not at all exaggerating - the set-up was incredibly easy-breezy, and the light emitted inside the box is perfectly balanced and positioned. I read some of the reviews posted by others that mentions the crease in the backdrop (or sweep) but I am not at all bothered by this, as it is incredibly subtle and can be easily edited out if it really bothers you that much. The backdrop is manufactured of a heavier vinyl-ish material - it seems this probably allows the backdrop to remain smooth and mostly wrinkle-free when the studio is folded up stored.

For reference, I should mention that I had previously purchased the following items as my product photo studio solution:

LimoStudio 16" Folding Photo Box Tent LED Light Table Top Photography Studio Kit
StudioPRO 675W Triple Translucent Umbrella Continuous Bright Lighting Kit for Photo, Photography, Film & Video Studio - (Set of 3)
Cowboystudio 33 inch Photography Studio Translucent Shoot Through White Umbrella
KAEZI 45 Watt Studio Grow Light Bulb Compact Fluorescent 5500K CFL Day Light Bulb (45 Watts)

My former set-up (the LimoStudio tent) came with four sweeps (white, black, blue and red), which I initially thought would be useful, but in the end, I only ever used the white sweep, which collected dirt very easily and was made of a cheap material that I found impossible to clean. The LED lights that came with that studio did not diffuse correctly and basically emitted a spotlight effect from whichever angle they were positioned. I then purchased the StudioPro umbrella kit to solve this problem - these took up a ton of floor space, and in my two-room apartment, such a thing was exceedingly inconvenient. Even after all of the additional items I purchased and the incessant tweaking I did, I was not happy with the quality of my product photos, and my studio set-up had taken over my life.

Ultimately, my experience, spending hours with all of these former components proved nothing but frustrating, and futile - they didn't come close to the ease of use and the immediate-high-quality output yielded within the first few minutes using the AmazonBasics studio.

The example photos I posted reflect a quick-and-dirty, unedited, no-filter test I did using my Microsoft Lumia 735 8.2 megapixel camera phone. I have a DSLR that I use for product photos, but this shows how decent the results are out of the box, using super-basic equipment.

I'm beyond satisfied with this purchase - it's everything I need, and I honestly wish I'd purchased it first, before sinking the same amount of money into separate components that ultimately didn't measure up.
