4Just Works and Fits the Need...
By DPK
It is what it is -- and so far solid. Will update the post if any issues. The short cable and separate connectors are a plus in terms of flexibility with installations. I have it connected to laptop with VGA cable and tied to 27" monitor via HDMI. From my experience switching multiple devices connected to a single monitor via the monitor's input control is not only troublesome based on the monitor's auto-sensing features but also screwed up one of my previous monitor's signal sensor (makes sense since monitor manufacturers don't expect users to switch sources 10x times per day. I am using a Fosmon HD8024 2x1 HDMI switch and have used many of the same unit for client installations.

UPDATE:

Too bad as ended up that this product does not maintain the HDMI signal 100% of the time -- meaning that if you are using a switch box as I was, when switching to the device (in my case a ThinkPad) attached to this interface cable, the switch/monitor don't recognize or "see" - signal. I thought I could trick it by using the audio connection cables (two options -- analog -- mini), but no dice. Nothing. So changed the rating to 4 stars because if you set it up as a real-time, always-on, connection it appears to work well. Important to know depending on your specific situation.

4It works.
By Sharon B
It works. We have had difficulty finding converters that work with our ancient VGA projector. We already had purchased a converter from another company which works ok. This is to be a back up in case the first one dies. It has been a challenge using the projector with Windows 10 on HP laptop. The computer and projector connected right away. We do have to drop the resolution as the projector can not cope with the higher resolutions of the newer computers. There is a slight ghost image but we don't think it is a converter problem since it is the same with both this converter and the previous one. Do plan on playing with the screen resolution because initially it may not project at the higher levels.

5Exactly what I was looking for
By Saleem O. Mir
Works great. I bought a new laptop that does not have a vga output. I sti'll wanted to keep my dual monitor setup. This device did the trick. I did not need to connect an power cable to it.
Update: when I got the adapter I used to wonder about the micro usb connection. The other day I tried hooking up my old original surface pro to a monitor and it wasn't working. Then I used a micro usb power cable and a phone charger with the adapter and it came up. I think for most laptops it might not be required but its good that the adapter has this feature.
