Very good purchase

This is a great product. The mount sticks strongly to any flat/smooth surface and it's incredibly useful in the car. You can position it any direction you need and the magnet is very strong, I've never worried about it dropping my phone. I was initially hesitant to stick the little disk onto the back of the phone but it's so thin thatI hardly even know it's there. The magnet against the phone doesn't seem to effect any performance with the device.
Overall, I have been very pleased and will likely buy again as gifts for people in the future.

Small, compact design that is incredibly handy! I've used quite a few "phone mounts" over the years (air vent, cup holders, etc) and this is by far the most useful and least obtrusive. I paired it with the Dreem phone case, which already has a magnetic backing to it. Before writing this review, noticed that there were some negative reviews. I thought to myself, how could anyone find a problem with this very ingenious device? I read the "1 star" reviews and it appears as though most are due to user error. It is key that you find a smooth surface upon which to stick the mount. Don't try it on any kind of textured surface. Use the enclosed alcohol wipe to thoroughly clean the area. Mine has lasted through the hot summer sun without any sign of loosening or failure. The adhesive is still very strong!

Best of the lot.

There are dozens of magnetic mounts similar to this Pop-Tech item, and I spent a slightly ridiculous amount of time trying to tell one from another. Eventually I settled on this one, and I'm very glad I did. Some of the other brands have very heavy mounting plates (which you stick onto your phone or case), and a few even requiring sticking the magnet itself to the phone, which is bulky and inconvenient. Others have a very high profile, which means much greater leverage in accidentally pulling the base off your dashboard. Some come with only one mounting plate, but Pop-Tech comes with a pair of plates in two different sizes (the larger one is recommended for larger phones, not surprisingly). They also supply a pair of extra adhesive pads for the base, in case you have to move it, or the first application doesn't stick sufficiently.
One caution -- some dashboards exude plasticiser as they age, occasionally in surprisingly large quantities. This is part of what is euphemistically called "new car smell." If the dashboard material is outgassing a lot, and is also textured, and not rather flat, then this is a trifecta of failure for the base-mounting adhesive. The adhesive pad does have a thin foam backing, so it will conform to some texture or very mild curvature, but it's not realistic to expect a flat surface to stick properly onto a curved one, and if the dash texture is not fairly fine, that further reduces the area of contact. Also, if you've been using Armor-All or other plastic protector on your dash you may have to clean off a small area with more attention than just a quick wipe with the supplied alcohol pad.
I particularly like the low profile of this design, as it holds my phone close to the dash and doesn't look unattractive when there's no phone on it. But be aware that some cars just don't have a usable flat spot for this kind of mount. In that case, something larger and more complicated and mechanical will be required. For me, there's a perfect spot in my CR-V and I can just snap the phone onto the magnet and pluck it off again when I leave the car. Although I don't use the phone's screen much while driving, having the phone in plain sight prevents me from leaving it in the car, and helps keep the center console uncluttered.
This product is very well made, and even quite nicely packaged. I recommend it highly. Beware of similar but much less refined competing models!
