It's the small speaker with the big, big voice. The SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker II delivers full sound with dramatically deeper lows than you'd expect from a speaker that fits in the palm of your hand. And because it's wireless and ultra-compact, it's easy to take Bose sound anywhere. The SoundLink Mini II has a built-in speakerphone, so you can take calls out loud with clear sound. And voice prompts talk you through Bluetooth pairing, so connecting to your music is easy. The speaker's lithium-ion battery provides up to 10 hours of unplugged playtime, and it can be conveniently charged from most USB power sources. At home, the included cradle keeps the speaker charged while serving as a home base, so it's always ready to grab and go. The SoundLink Mini II was engineered to stand up to everyday use and be placed almost anywhere. It connects wirelessly to your Bluetooth enabled devices--up to two at a time. The SoundLink Mini II is available in Carbon or Pearl and can be customized with colored accessory covers to fit your unique style. Included: SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker II; charging cradle; wall charger; cable.

Better than expected.
By Robert Walden
Based on a stupid amount of research and reviews I purchased the Bose SoundLink Mini II and the JBL Charge 3 for review to replace an aging Monster Clarity Bluetooth speaker I had been using for beaches/pools/vacations. Disclaimer: I have never liked Bose anything. I have always thought their product was overrated junk marketed to less than savvy consumers. After reading multiple reviews from sources I trusted, I landed on the MiniLink II and the JBL Charge 3 as best options for my needs. Outside of my mentioned purchases I informally "reviewed" several other Bluetooth speakers owned by friends. None of them were worthy of mention here.
In summary (and to my surprise): the MiniLink II produced the highest quality audio of any wireless speaker device I have auditioned. It is the unit I kept, and will continue to use. For context, I almost exclusively listen to Spotify on this device, and almost exclusively around the pool. From a music reproduction perspective, nothing I have heard in this price range matches the MiniLink II for wireless sound. It emits truly high-quality audio. However, it is not as loud as the JBL Charge 3. If you are looking for pure volume, the Charge 3 is easily louder. Does this matter? Well, if you are simply looking for something you can hear at a loud pool, the Charge 3 is the better option. It does not have the low-end or fullness of the MiniLink II, nor does it as accurately reproduce audio, but it can attain more audible volumes at large gatherings.
I'm not entirely sure these are the best two devices to compare, but if you are looking for great audio, go with the Bose. If you are looking for loudness, go with the Charge 3.

Better than the last in every way!!
- Longer battery life
- Longer Bluetooth range
- Multi-function button for changing songs
- MICRO USB CHARGER!!!
- Speakerphone is worthless
- Voice alerts are gimmicky and generally not useful
- Heavy for a portable speaker
I owned the SoundLink Mini 1 for a year and a half and I loved it. It traveled with me everywhere; India, Dubai, across Europe, Japan, Singapore... There is nothing like coming back to the hotel room after a long day of work and listening to your music in crystal clear quality cranked up loud enough to annoy your neighbors...beautiful. Long story short everything that was wrong with the SLM 1 (this wasn't a long list, granted) is fixed in the SLM 2. The improvements in order of importance: Micro USB charging port replaced customer charger, multi function button now allows for song switching and pausing from the speaker, Longer bluetooth range means much less cutting in and out, better battery life (I haven't tested on a long trip yet) means less charging, voice prompt tells you batter life in 10% increments rather than the cryptic Green/Yellow/Red LED. All in all this is an improvement on the best portable bluetooth speaker out there.
For those who've never tried either, what you can expect: Amazing sound quality even at high volumes, great sound output, a substantial (read: heavy) build quality, beautiful exterior, rock-solid functionality (connecting to a phone is fast and simple) and the list continues. Basically, if you're in the market for something that will last you a long time and you put some value on sound quality this is the speaker for you. Don't get the old one, get this one.
No product is perfect as you can read above, this is a heavy speaker, even carrying a backpack with other stuff, you will notice the extra weight. The speaker phone does not work, not sure if it's because I have the soft case on it, but when I tested it, no-one could hear me on the other side, although I could hear the other people on the line just fine. Also, every time you turn it on it is obliged to tell you which device it is connected to and what the battery level is, when all I really want is to listen to my music. It would be better if their was a query button that you could press when you wanted this information. All these problems amount to very little, though as it preforms its core function so well, the sound is so beautiful and clear and to add to that I don't have to bring an extra charger with me. I would make this purchase any day of the week.
Also for those wondering, the same cases fit this as the SLM 1, so if you already have a case you don't need to buy another. Check out my pics to see how close in size these two are. The new one is the lighter color.

Simply put Bose SoundLink Mini II is possibly the best all around portable bluetooth speaker on the market. The speaker has plentiful of features such as ability to work as a speakerphone, charge through USB outlets or on its own cradle, remembering multiple bluetooth devices and pairing to two bluetooth devices at once. Many of the features do not really even matter to me–I'm happy that it pairs to my phone and plays my music with wonderful audio quality.
Pairing process was very simple, after selecting language in the beginning the speaker automatically put itself in pairing mode and thus I was able to get music playing in less than 30 seconds from the point of turning it on. There are + and - buttons on the speakers to adjust volume if needed by I personally control volume and music playback through my phone instead. Not that there's something wrong with the buttons, it's just a personal preference.
* Big sound--with deep bass--for a full-range listening experience
* Wireless and ultra-compact so you can take Bose sound anywhere
* Built-in speakerphone lets you take calls out loud
* Voice prompts talk you through Bluetooth pairing, so it's super easy
* Lithium-ion battery plays up to 10 hours on full charge
