|Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter
|Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (MB570LL/B)
|Apple USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter
The new MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air each have a Mini DisplayPort that allows you to connect an external display or projector using an adapter. You can use an external display as your main workspace or to extend your desktop, or you can work in mirrored mode with a projector so you can view what your audience sees. Use the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air to a standard analog monitor, projector, or LCD that uses a VGA connector or cable. Review the documentation or check with the manufacturer of your monitor to make sure you re choosing the right adapter.

You'll be the most popular nerd at the party
By "party," I mean conference. Most conferences that I attend provide a cable to connect a PC to the projector, but not a Mac, so if you have this cable, you will be extremely popular with all of the people that didn't realize that Macs come with a bring-your-own-connectors requirement at most places. This little device has improved my self-esteem by leaps and bounds since I bought it a few months ago. For a double self-esteem boost, get the iPad/iPhone VGA connector. You'll be surrounded by adoring fans (aka desperate presenters without the necessary adapters).

It takes a little DisplayPort on a Mac Mini and provides an interface to connect a standard VGA monitor to it. I used it to connect our Mac Mini to an older 19 inch LCD monitor (5x4 aspect ratio) and didn't have any issues.
I bought the genuine Apple model since I had read a few reviews about the off-brand units not quite measuring up as far as quality and compatibility were concerned. Knowing Apple, I don't find it hard to believe,
Otherwise, this little adapter works fine and I can't find any reason not to recommend it to others.

Great extra for a MacBook Pro
By Wayne P.
I needed a VGA adapter to connect my MacBook Pro to the video projector at the university where I was teaching. This worked flawlessly. The quality of the picture coming out of the projector was nearly as good as on my MacBook screen. Of course, this does not transmit audio; I had to hook up an extra audio cable for that. However, connecting was a simple as turning on the projector, then plugging the projector into the adapter and finally plugging the adapter into my MacBook. The MacBook instantly recognized the projector and took care of everything. This made showing my slides and videos for my class very easy. I'm quite happy with this adapter.
